WASHINGTON — West Elm is opening a 6,100-square-foot “pop-up” store at Union Market, which will feature crafts made by D.C.-area artists alongside its own furnishings and housewares.
The temporary store opens Saturday.
As part of the Union Market pop-up, West Elm is including what it calls its “Makers Residency Program,” giving local artists a temporary residence within the store to produce new works, host workshops and talk to customers about their creative process.
West Elm says its Union Market store will support the work of nine D.C.-area artists.
“Joining Union Market district gives us the opportunity to deepen our commitment to supporting D.C.’s local artists and makers,” said West Elm President Jim Brett.
“We hope our Makers Residency Program contributes to the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit that makes Union Market a vibrant communal district,” he said.
The Union Market store will also be selling a selection of other products curated from West Elm’s network of more than 500 local artists from across the country.
