Delta to start DCA-LAX service in April

WASHINGTON — Delta Air Lines will start nonstop service from Reagan National Airport to Los Angeles International Airport on April 24.

It will be one of only a handful of long-distance flights out of Reagan National. Perimeter rules limit the number of flights beyond 1,250 miles to just 20. In order to offer the LAX service from DCA, Delta will shift its current nonstop service to Salt Lake City, originating those flights from Dulles Airport.

“Delta’s preference would be to maintain two roundtrip flights to Salt Lake City from DCA, but is unable to do so without a change to federal statute,” said Andrea Newman, Delta’s senior vice president of government affairs.

“We believe that new ‘beyond-perimeter’ slots would help to create new jobs and economic growth through new business and tourism opportunities in addition to lowering ticket prices and benefiting consumers through increased competition.”

American Airlines and Alaska Air both offer nonstop flights from Reagan National to Los Angeles.

Other beyond-perimeter destinations from Reagan National operated by various airlines include Austin; Denver; Las Vegas; Phoenix; San Francisco; Seattle; Portland, Oregon, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
