Mark Wahlberg-backed burger shop coming to Ballston

WASHINGTON — Wahlburgers, the Boston burger chain backed by actor Mark Wahlberg and his brothers, will open a second D.C.-area location in Ballston.

Wahlburgers announced plans for a Dupont Circle location in June, scheduled to open later this year.

The Ballston Wahlburgers will occupy 6,600 square feet at Ballston Point, next to the Ballston Common Mall at the intersection of Wilson Blvd. and Glebe Road.

The Ballston location will open in early 2017 and will include a large bar and outdoor patio.

“We are committed to bringing Wahlburgers to the metro D.C. area and look forward to opening our doors in both Arlington and Dupont Circle in coming months,” said president and COO Maurizio Marfoglia. “Now with two locations secured, we are excited to continue further expansion in the market.”

The Dupont location is at One Dupont Circle, on New Hampshire Ave. in Northwest D.C.

Wahlburgers menu includes specialty burgers with names like “OFD” (originally from Dorchesstah), “Mom’s Sloppy Joe” and “The Beast” — two 5-ounce burgers topped with blue cheese sauce and BBQ sauce.

Wahlburgers also serves hot dogs, chicken and fish sandwiches, salads, mac and cheese, and grilled cheese.

Wahlburgers has six locations currently, in Boston, Philadelphia, Coney Island, Orlando, Las Vegas and Toronto.

Paul Wahlberg founded Wahlburgers in 2011 and serves as executive chefs. Celebrity brothers Mark and Donnie are among its investors.
