WASHINGTON — Frederick’s Flying Dog Brewery ranks No. 37 on the Brewers Association’s top 50 list for 2015 craft beer sales volume, the only local brewer on the 2015 list. Flying Dog was ranked No. 37 on the 2014 sales volume list as well.
Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Milton, Delaware, near Rehoboth Beach, ranks No. 16 for sales volume last year. In 2014, it ranked No. 13.
Nationwide, the number of operating breweries in the U.S. grew by 15 percent last year to a total of 4,269.
Craft brewers produced 24.5 million barrels last year, and saw a 16 percent increase in retail dollar value. Craft brewers now represent 12 percent of the overall beer industry market in the U.S.
The Brewers Association, based in Boulder, Colorado, says 620 new craft beer breweries opened in the U.S. last year.
The three largest craft brewers, by sales volume, remain the same. D.G. Yuengling, also the nation’s oldest beer maker, in Pottsville, Pennsylvania ranks No. 1, followed by Boston Beer Co. and Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
Actual sales volume numbers are released by the Brewers Association in its May/June issue of The New Brewer which comes out in mid-May.
