WTOP wins eight Chesapeake AP Awards

Washington D.C. – WTOP 103.5 FM was honored over the weekend with eight Chesapeake AP Awards – the most of any other major radio station the Washington area.

The station won in the following categories:
• Outstanding Coverage of a Continuing Story
o WTOP-FM, Washington, “Government Shutdown”
• Outstanding Use of Sound
o WTOP-FM, Washington, “Fire Fight” (Thomas Warren)
• Outstanding Year-Round Local Sports Coverage
o WTOP-FM, Washington
• Outstanding Editorial or Commentary
o WTOP-FM, Washington, “Core Values”
• Outstanding Sports Feature
o WTOP-FM, Washington, “Hockey Dentist” (Jonathan Warner)
• Outstanding Talk Show
o WTOP-FM, Washington, “Ask the Governor” (Debra Feinstein and Mark Lewis)
• Best Reporter
o WTOP-FM, Washington, Megan Cloherty
• Multimedia/Online Journalism
o WTOP-FM, Washington, “A Hero’s Best Friend” (Darci Marchese)

The awards were presented to WTOP employees Saturday at the annual Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association Convention in Ocean City, Maryland. The Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association is comprised of television and radio professionsl from across the region.

In 2014 alone, WTOP has won more than 30 major awards for excellence in journalism. Including five Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards and seven National Headliner Awards.
