WASHINGTON — This week is a time for writers to think short — the third annual Twitter Fiction Festival begins at 9 a.m. Monday, running through Friday.
The organizers are looking for writers to come up with the best work they can put out 140 characters at a time. They advise that, while tweeting out a traditional story line-by-line is fine, they’re particularly excited by stories that really use the medium — multiple handles for different characters, the use of pictures (including retweets of other people’s pics), parody accounts and more.
It’s not just for amateurs, either — this year’s authors include Margaret Atwood, Lemony Snicket, Celeste Ng and more. The event will direct people to the Twitter handles of authors at specific times when new releases are scheduled, USA Today reports. Or you can just start making your own work — the hashtag is #twitterfiction.
