ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A sheriff in Maryland says his stepson threatened to kill him and his family and was taken into custody for opiate abuse, according to local media reports.
The Capital Gazette reported Monday 23-year-old Walter Paul Robinson, of Ellicott City, was arrested last week and charged with threatening a public official after he reportedly told his sister he planned to kill the sheriff and the sheriff’s family.
In his statement, Bateman said the arrest was the unfortunate results of opiate abuse with which his family and so many others are dealing. He said he is a regular stepfather who had to do what was necessary to protect his family, and that he hopes his stepson gets the help he needs.
A District Court judge last week granted Bateman and his wife a protective order after the sheriff said he learned of Robinson’s threatening comments, according to the Gazette.
