Police find body of Md. man wanted in stepsister’s killing

WASHINGTON — Anne Arundel County police on Friday found the body of an 18-year-old who was wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of his 10-year-old stepsister earlier this week.

Police had been searching for Andres Rafael Quintana Garcia, who they say stabbed his stepsister and his 13-year-old stepbrother during a family argument Monday evening and then fled the scene.

The 13-year-old survived the attack and was released from the hospital Thursday.

Police found Garcia’s body around 11 a.m. Friday after in a fenced-in culvert surrounded by trees and brush, police said in a Facebook post.

Police said evidence at the scene indicated Garcia may have taken his own life. His body was taken to the county medical examiner to determine the exact cause of death.

Earlier, police announced they had found a body they believed to be Garcia but couldn’t confirm it. Earlier this week, police said the two victims were related to Garcia but it wasn’t immediately clear how. An Anne Arundel County police spokesman told WTOP Friday afternoon the two children were Garcia’s stepsister and stepbrother.

Police said they initiated a “large scale search operation” Friday morning made up law enforcement personnel and volunteer searchers to locate Garcia.

Police said they are still seeking witnesses to Monday’s stabbing.

“Someone out there may have information as to why this tragic incident unfolded this week,” police said in the Facebook post and urged anyone with information to call the police homicide unit at 410-222-4731 or the anonymous tip line at 410-222-4700
