WASHINGTON — A police officer was seriously hurt in a multi-car crash in Anne Arundel County Wednesday morning.
The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 97 at Md. 3/32. The police say that an officer was rear-ended by a Chevrolet van, causing serious injuries to the officer.
He was transported by helicopter to an area hospital. The officer — a three-year veteran of the Patrol Services Bureau — was released from the hospital by 4 p.m. Wednesday.
No other injuries were reported.
The road was closed for about a half-hour before the northbound lanes reopened; the southbound lanes reopened shortly after 10.
Charges are pending against the driver of the Chevrolet van.
