Corporal shot at Anne Arundel 7-Eleven upgraded to stable condition

MILLERSVILLE, Md. — An Anne Arundel County officer shot in the line of duty on Friday is doing better.

Corporal Larry Adams was looking into a report of a suspicious person at a 7-Eleven on Campus Parkway East when he was shot last week.

“We got a miracle,” said Police Chief Timothy Altomare on Adams’ condition being upgraded to stable at Maryland Shock Trauma.

Polie say around 2 a.m. Friday morning Adams was looking into a vehicle in the area of the 7-Eleven. After running the plates on the van, he headed into the convenience store for a business safety check. On his way in investigators say he encountered Colvin White, 30, of Annapolis, Maryland.

What began as a conversation resulted in a struggle and White ran to the van Adams had just examined. Moments later witnesses say they heard at least one gun shot.

“Arriving officers got on scene and they found Corporal Adams on East College Parkway, suffering from a gun shot wound,” said Lieutenant TJ Smith.

Adams was able to tell fellow officers about the van and the gunman as he was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Investigators later discovered the van belonged to Danielle Blake, 29, of Severn, Maryland who police say has children with White. White was arrested on Friday on a list of charges including attempted murder. Blake was arrested on Sunday and charged with conspiracy to commit many of the crimes White has been charged with.

Smith said investigators believe Blake was at the 7-Eleven that morning and drove off knowing what happened.

Adams’ wife Ritu fought back tears when talking about the outpouring of support.

“We’re very, very, touched by all of your love.”

Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh says White was arrested in 2005 for armed robbery but didn’t serve his full sentence.

“It’s an illustration of the revolving door of justice that has existed in this county for some time,” Schuh said.

Both White and Blake are being held behind bars without bond. Police say Adams never used his weapon and they are still looking for the gun they believe White used in the shooting.
