ALEXANDRIA — Alexandria crafters, soon you won’t have to venture to Hybla Valley, Springfield or Falls Church to go to Michaels Arts & Crafts.
The chain plans to open in the Bradlee Shopping Center off King Street this summer.
The company says it does not have a firm opening date, but says it’s coming in the summer, barring any unforeseen construction delays.
Construction is underway to convert two retail spaces at the shopping center.
Michaels will be located where the Dress Barn and Washington Sports Club used to be. Dress Barn closed at the end of January. The Washington Sports Club, which occupied nearly 20,000-square-feet at the shopping center, closed last fall after 15 years.
Bradlee Shopping Center, a 168,000-square-foot shopping center at the intersection of King Street and Braddock Road, is a busy stop for Alexandria and Fairlington residents.
It is home to The Fresh Market, Rite Aid, a Hallmark shop, a U.S. postal facility and a number of restaurants, including Atlantis and McDonald’s. Adjacent to the center on the corner of King Street and Janneys Lane is a Safeway.
With so much traffic in and out, shoppers will have to be crafty about where they park.
