WASHINGTON — An Alexandria man convicted of trying to entice a 9-year-old to perform sex acts was recently sentenced for his crimes, the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office announced Friday.
A judge on Sept. 14 sentenced Selvin Josue Gonzalez Grijalva to 10 years of active incarceration, plus 20 years of good behavior upon release, in addition to 10 years of supervised probation — a total of 40 years.
“The sentence imposed in this case sends a strong message that sex crimes against children will not be tolerated in this community,” Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter said in a statement. “It is our hope that in this sentence the victim will find some small degree of closure and that the process of healing can begin.”
Prosecutors say that Grijalva, 28, used the Internet to entice the child into sending him pornographic images and to solicit the child to commit sexual acts with him.
Under the terms of the sentence, Grijalva will have to undergo sex offender evaluation and treatment during probation, and, after his sentence, will be barred from having contact with children.
Grijalva, who entered a guilty plea, was indicted on six charges tied to child porn: Enticing a minor to engage in pornography; proposing sexual acts with a minor through a communications system; possession of child pornography; possession of child pornography-subsequent offense; possession of child pornography-subsequent offense; and possession of child pornography-subsequent offense.
He is currently in jail awaiting transfer to the Department of Corrections.
