WASHINGTON — The Redskins are playing across the pond next season.
The team announced that they will play the Cincinnati Bengals at London’s Wembley Stadium on Oct. 30, 2016. They will be considered the road team for the game.
They could also be the first NFL team to make it a London doubleheader: The team says that The St. Louis Rams will face the NFC East team that finishes in the same place as they do the previous Sunday at Twickenham Stadium. The Redskins are tied for second in the NFC East; the Rams are in third in the NFC West. If they finish in the same places, the Skins will play in London two games in a row. That would also be considered a road game; the Redskins would still play eight games next season at FedEx Field, the team says.
Redskins owner Dan Snyder is on the NFL’s International Committee, which stages the London games, and says on the team’s website that “We are excited to showcase the Washington Redskins on an international stage; we are honored to help grow the game overseas.”
“The Washington Redskins are proud to be one of the most popular sports teams in the world,” President Bruce Allen said. “We look forward to seeing our fans from everywhere come together to sing ‘Hail to the Redskins’ in London.”

In the first of the three games scheduled for next season, the Indianapolis Colts will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley on Oct. 2.
The NFL has been playing regular-season games in London since 2007, with every one played at Wembley, the home of England’s national soccer team. But next year will start a new deal to hold games at Twickenham, the home of England’s national rugby team.
The Redskins will travel to London for the first time since 1992, when they played the San Francisco 49ers in the American Bowl, a preseason game held at the old Wembley Stadium.
