Yvonne Craig, TV’s Batgirl, dies at 78

WASHINGTON — Yvonne Craig, best known as TV’s Batgirl, has died. She was 78.

Craig also was known for playing Marta in the “Star Trek” series, and appeared on “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,” “Love American Style,” “Mod Squad,” “Emergency” and “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis,” her website, YvonneCraig.com says.

She starred in the Elvis Presley movies “It Happened at the World’s Fair” and “Kissin’ Cousins.”

She started in the ballet, where she toured for three years as the youngest member of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo.

After the bulk of her film and TV career was over, she went into real estate, but stayed active in show business, providing the voice of Grandma in the Nickelodeon carton series “Olivia.”

Craig died Monday at home from breast cancer that had metastasized to her liver, her website says.

In 2000, Craig wrote the book “From Ballet to the Batcave and Beyond.”
