Metro 7000-series needs software upgrade

WASHINGTON — The 7000-series Metro trains are brand new, but Metro says there have been some problems that require a software upgrade.

Metro Spokesman Dan Stessel likened it to updating your iPhone when a new iOS comes out.

On Monday afternoon, one of the new 7000-series trains was offloaded at Fort Totten around 3:45 p.m. because of a problem with it.

But Stessel says the 7000-series trains are back in service on Tuesday and will remain in service as the new software upgrade is rolled out.

The train manufacturer, Kawasaki, will provide the software upgrade.

It’s unclear what exactly is wrong with the current software.
