5-year-old ‘bubble boy’ asks Internet to wear his favorite color (Video)

WASHINGTON — A rare condition has left a 5-year-old boy isolated for most of his life, but his call to the Internet is bringing his closer to people around the world.

Seth has severe combined immunodeficiency, which is often referred to as “bubble boy syndrome.” The condition, which causes a weakened immune system, has forced him to live in a hospital room for most of his life.

Seth is anything but cutoff after his campaign for people to wear his favorite color, yellow, has spiraled into a massive social media campaign.

In a short video posted last week, Seth is show in The Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle, England, waiting for a second bone marrow transplant. He shares some of his favorite things, including the color yellow.

In the video, he holds a card asking people to wear yellow on March 27, 2015, to show him support. Seth and his family will print off pictures posted online using #WearYellowForSeth and hang them in his hospital room.

“Be inventive — make Seth laugh,” says the YouTube post. “He has a map of the world so he will learn about the Internet, the world and how amazing people really can be!!!”

On social media, people are spreading their yellow-wearing plans and pledging their support. A GoFundMe page has raised more than 4,100 pounds or about $6,000.

Keep up with Seth and his journey through his family’s blog.
