Greenbelt man arrested for exposing himself on Metro

WASHINGTON — A Prince George’s County man has been arrested on felony child abuse charges after he allegedly exposed himself to a teenager on the Metrorail.

Espinosa L. Lopez, a Greenbelt resident, is in jail without bond pending a pretrial hearing slated for Friday. On Sept. 11, he boarded a Green Line train at the Georgia Avenue-Petworth station, sat next to a 13-year-old girl and exposed himself.

According to Metro Transit Police, Lopez began touching himself. When the girl asked Lopez to move so she could leave her seat, he allegedly touched her and asked, “why are you leaving so soon?”

The girl pushed past Lopez, left the train and told a family member about the incident. The family member contacted police.

“This case has been an extremely high priority for us since it was reported,” Metro Transit Police Chief Ron Pavlik said in a statement. “While such behavior is never tolerated, these allegations are particularly disturbing because they involve a minor.”

Lopez was arrested on Monday.
