Prince George’s Co. man charged with shooting taxi driver

WASHINGTON — Prince George’s County police have arrested a suspect who they say shot a taxi driver in District Heights on the Fourth of July.

On Tuesday, police said they arrested 24-year-old Diotraye Lee Diggs, a Hyattsville resident.

Police say on the Fourth of July, Diggs shot a taxi driver in the 5500 block of Hil-Mar Drive at about 11:45 p.m.

An investigation found that the victim, whose name has not been released, picked up Diggs, a woman and a child from the Suitland Metro Station. When they arrived at the destination on Hil-Mar Drive, the taxi driver asked for payment and Diggs shot the driver, police say.

Officers responded and found Diggs and the woman nearby. Police also recovered the gun.

Emergency crews transported the victim to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Diggs is charged with attempted 2nd degree murder and other related charges. He is currently in police custody and is being held on a $350,000 bond.

The woman is not facing any charges and the child was not hurt.
