Woman gets over two decades in prison for abusing disabled seniors

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. – A woman in Prince George’s County convicted of scamming disabled senior citizens was sentenced to 24 years in prison Thursday.

Zainab Kamara, 34, was found guilty of 29 counts in April, including abuse of a vulnerable adult and false imprisonment.

Kamara ran an unlicensed assisted living center out of her Bladensburg apartment, stealing money and belongings from her victims, giving them no medical care and providing them little food.

“The behavior is pure evil,” said Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks.  “It was just unthinkable, despicable and horrible but she will pay dearly for this.”

According to prosecutors, Kamara stole at least $4,000 from her victims.

One of the victims spoke in court, saying Kamara was physically abusive and calling her a “pathological liar.”

When police launched an investigation into Kamara’s apartment, they found squalid conditions.  It smelled of urine and was infested with cockroaches.
