Boy who fell into Oxon Hill pond identified

WASHINGTON — The Prince George’s County Police Department has identified all those involved in Friday’s incident, in which a young boy died after he fell into a pond.

The boy’s name was Zae’ Quan Antonio White, of Southeast. The three officers who assisted in pulling him from the water are Dale Sollars, Brendan Taylor and Melvin Fulton.

The boy was rescued by the officers, who jumped in and helped pull White from the water.

The incident, which occurred around 5:30 p.m., happened in Barnaby Run Park in Oxon Hill, police say. White was playing near the pond when he fell into the water.

The officers were flagged down and performed CPR on White until an ambulance arrived. The seven-year-old was rushed to a hospital and pronounced dead. Both officers were also taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The preliminary investigation suggests the child was playing in the area and walked onto the ice-covered pond. The ice gave way and White fell in.
