Well-known Pittsburgh sandwich shop to open first Md. store

WASHINGTON — A popular Pittsburgh restaurant is opening its first location in Maryland, and is giving away a year’s worth of free sandwiches to its first customers to celebrate.

Primanti Bros. is opening its 29th location in Hagerstown, Maryland, this week and is giving away free sandwiches for a year to the first 100 customers at its new location.

The restaurant at the Valley Mall, located 17301 Valley Mall, opens its doors on the afternoon of Nov. 13, but fans can “tailgate” to get their place in line beginning at 8 p.m. Nov. 12.

“We’ve finally crossed the border and are excited about our first restaurant in Maryland,” Primanti Bros. CEO David Head said in a news release. “And for those fans who are willing to start lining up early — we’ve got a great night planned.”

Primanti Bros. got its start in Pittsburgh in 1933 and is known for its “Almost Famous” Primanti Brothers sandwich, which includes select meats, an optional egg, coleslaw and fresh-cut fries on Italian bread.

In addition to the new Maryland location, Primanti Bros. has more than a dozen locations around Pittsburgh, with more in Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio and West Virginia.
