Noise worries neighbors near Gaithersburg airpark

WASHINGTON — While a deadly crash near a busy Gaithersburg, Maryland, airpark raises concerns about safety, it is not safety worries that prompt the most complaints. It’s noise.

“Typically, the concerns we have heard have been about noise,” says Montgomery County Council member Craig Rice who represents the area.

Rice says neighbors have complained about the trainings and touch-and-go exercises at the airport as “quality of life and peace of mind” issues.

The six deaths on Monday have shaken the community, Rice says.

“Our hearts certainly go out to the families. As always, we want to try to ensure the greatest safety for all of our residents, especially around our.neighboring airports.”

Montgomery County has two airports, the Montgomery County Airpark in Gaithersburg and Davis Airport in Laytonsville, Maryland.
