2 dead in Arlington house fire

WASHINGTON — Arlington County, Virginia, fire marshals are searching for the cause of a house fire that killed an adult and a child and sent another adult and another child to the hospital early Tuesday.

The fire, reported at 4:17 a.m. Tuesday, occurred in the 1100 block of South Emerson Street near 11th Street South, near Wakefield High School.

The names of the victims have not been released.

Arlington County Fire Department Fire Lt. Sarah Marchegiani tells WTOP the fire department got on the scene at 4:23 a.m. In all, about 70 firefighters were on scene.

“When we arrived on scene, the fire had already taken control of the entire first floor,” Marchegiani said.

Eventually, the fire spread to the second floor.

Investigators have found that the home did not have working smoke detectors. In a release, the Arlington County Fire Department said anyone who can’t afford a smoke alarm can request on via this link.
