Tour de Cookie lets families bike for a good cause

WASHINGTON — Here’s a recipe for a successful fundraiser: Take families; put them on bikes; and give them cookies at each pit stop along the ride.

It’s the second annual Tour De Cookie, and it kicks off Saturday morning in Rockville. The event is a fundraiser for The Tree House Child Assessment Center of Montgomery County.

Tom Grazio, director of The Tree House, says his organization offers services to children and families affected by abuse and neglect. The Tree House works alongside the courts, but the mission is different. “We don’t really offer that child justice, because that’s not something I can give them,” Grazio says. “But I can give them hope.”

Grazio says the services at The Tree House include therapy and medical attention. He adds that children who come to The Tree House for services have been subject to trauma, and the goal is “to give that child a chance to recover from that trauma and to get healthy and well.”

The Tour De Cookie starts at 9 a.m. You can sign up for a 40-mile route or an 11-mile route by clicking here.
