New Ocean City pub unveils fruity brews, social seating

OCEAN CITY, Md. – An ambitious new craft brewery is opening soon in Ocean City with the promise of a wide selection of beer.

“I was born and raised here, and I wanted to bring something back,” says Joshua Shores, one of the owners of Ocean City Brewing Company at 56th Street and Coastal Highway.

They have almost 18,000-square-feet of space that will include a full-service restaurant serving American pub fare.

The space also includes Oktoberfest-style tables where Shores hopes customers will make new friends.

“That’s what we’re bringing to Ocean City, the community tables, the social aspect. And that’s where our Social X-Periment beer comes from.”

Eventually, they plan to offer more than 20 of their own beers on tap at any given time.

“Our two flagships are OC Lager and OC Light. I wanted to do something different. Most craft breweries don’t get into the lagers until they’re big enough. We’re coming right out with our twp flagships. They take a lot longer to ferment (than) the ales,” says Shores.

On the more unusual side, they will sell a watermelon mint, wheat beer called Alrighty Then!, as well as a beer called Spoiled Brat.

“It’s 11 percent alcohol. It’s a pineapple ginger, pale ale. It’s served in 6-ounce champagne glasses with a pineapple at the bottom. It’s pretty wild,” says Shores.

Ocean City Brewing Company plans to open in June. And because brewing takes time, the beer selection will increase gradually.

“By the end of June, we should have about 75 percent of our beers, our own beers, on tap.”
