More Snow Possible Tuesday

Old Georgetown Road and Woodmont Avenue in the snow on SundayMore snow could be on the way Tuesday.

Temperatures are expected to increase throughout Monday, melting the snow and ice from Sunday’s storm. The icing overnight caused a number of trees and branches to fall around the area, including at Massachusetts Avenue and Little Falls Parkway.

But we could be in for more on Tuesday morning. Howard Bernstein at WUSA9 made a first call of 2-4 inches of snow for much of the area. Other models show 4 to 6, though it’s too early to tell.

Here’s the Winter Storm Watch from the National Weather Service, issued at 10:09 a.m. that calls for five inches of snow. (Some think that’s too much.):

* ACCUMULATIONS…POTENTIAL FOR FIVE INCHES OR MORE OF SNOW.

* TIMING…NEAR DAWN TUESDAY THROUGH EARLY TUESDAY AFTERNOON…INCLUDING THE TUESDAY MORNING RUSH HOUR.

* TEMPERATURES…UPPER 20S AND LOWER 30S.

* WINDS…NORTH 5 TO 10 MPH.

* IMPACTS…HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS ARE PROBABLE DUE TO ACCUMULATING SNOW…WHICH WILL CAUSE ADVERSE TRAVELING CONDITIONS. THE SNOW WILL LIKELY IMPACT THE MORNING RUSH TUESDAY WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR ACCUMULATION RATES OF 1-2 INCHES PER HOUR FOR A TWO-TO-FOUR HOUR PERIOD FROM DAYBREAK TO MID-TO-LATE MORNING.
