Good news for fans of H Street NE ramen restaurant Toki Underground: the restaurant will continue its lunch time pop-up at Union Market in Northeast D.C. through the end of the year.
Toki’s run at Union Market began Oct. 21 and was supposed to end Sunday, but the temporary ramen counter will stay through the end of the year, Union Market tweeted Tuesday. For the first two weeks, the pop-up featured shoyu ramen made with as many ingredients as possible sourced from vendors within the market.
The Toki lunch counter — which took over the old Border Springs stall at the gourmet culinary and prepared foods emporium after it closed in September — coincides with lunch service at the flagship restaurant, which began Monday. The restaurant will serve lunch Monday through Saturday from 11:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Lunch at Toki’s Union Market location is available Wednesday through Saturday. Owner Erik Bruner-Yang is no stranger to pop-ups: he recently hosted one for his forthcoming restaurant and market, Maketto, at the Hanoi House restaurant at 14th and U streets NW.
Still no final word on when Maketto will open. Bruner-Yang told the Washington Post last month that there were issues with the restaurant’s water line and that he was hoping to open in December.
Update: Ramen will apparently not be on the menu for the Toki Union Market pop-up for the rest of the year, according to a tweet from the restaurant. I’ll update this post once I learn more about what they’re planning for the space.
