WASHINGTON – Three members of the same family, including a small child, were killed in a three-vehicle collision in Aspen Hill Sunday.

Montgomery County police say Felipe Pineda, 50, and his niece, Elizabeth Lemus, 4, both of Wheaton, were killed in the crash, which happened at 9:47 p.m. Sunday at Georgia Avenue and Kayson Street.

Salvador Lemus Ramos, 39, of Wheaton, who is the father of the little girl, died later from his injuries, police say.

Four other adults involved in the crash, including Elba Pineda, the girl’s mother, were taken to hospitals.

Police say a 2000 Nissan Sentra was making a left turn from Kayson Street on to northbound Georgia Avenue when it was hit by a 2008 Volkswagon Passat and a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro, both of which were traveling southbound on Georgia Avenue.

Felipe Pineda, Elizabeth Lemus, Salvador Lemus Ramos and Elba Pineda were all ejected from the Nissan.

Montgomery County Assistant Fire Chief Scott Graham told WTOP the child was still in a child safety seat.

Anyone with information about the crash can call police at 240-773-6620.

Here’s what the fire department tweeted at the time of the crash:

The place where the crash occurred, between Hewitt Avenue and Hathaway Drive, remained closed until 5:20 a.m. Monday.
