Fire engulfs apts. in Woodbridge, boy called hero

WASHINGTON – An 11-year-old boy is being hailed as a hero after helping residents of a Woodbridge apartment building escape a four-alarm-fire Thursday night.

ABC7 reports Rylton Thomas kept calm, banging on doors and pulling fire alarms at the Woodbridge Station Apartments in the 1300 block of Eisenhower Circle as flames engulfed the top floor of two buildings within minutes.

“I was trying to save people’s lives, cause some of my friends live in that building and I didn’t want to see my friends go,” Thomas told ABC7.

Fire officials said everyone escaped and there were no injuries, although dozens have been left homeless.
