Live like a baller, shot-caller without the price tag

WASHINGTON – A new monthly subscription service will allow members to live like a celebrity without the high cost of a lavish celebrity lifestyle.

For $39 a month, members of 12Society.com can receive a box of premium goodies in the mail from rapper Nas, comedian Nick Cannon, basketball stars Blake Griffin and Kevin Love, the San Francisco Giants’ Tim Lincecum, as well as former New York Giants player Michael Strahan. All six of the men are curators for the site, as well as contributors for the site’s blog.

The contents of these boxes are worth at least $125.

“This is for everybody; this is not for rich people,” Nas told MTV News. “It’s a cool thing.”

Shipments include four to six hand-picked items ranging from clothing to tech gadgets, as well as other premium goods, MTV News reports. The 12Society website gives potential members more insight to what they’ll receive, such as headphones, gift cards, sporting goods, cologne and even video games.

The idea of a monthly subscription box is nothing new. For women, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s sites JewelMint and StyleMint allow subscribers to have access to designer fashion for $30. Birchbox, a beauty subscription site that caters to men and women, follows the same format. For men, Quarterly mails out various items picked by different curators every three months.
