WASHINGTON — A 24-year-old woman is dead after police say her ex-boyfriend shot her outside a Montgomery County Target Monday evening.

The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. in the parking lot in front of a Target located at 20908 N. Frederick Rd. in Germantown, Maryland. When police responded to the scene, they found 24-year-old Mariam Folashade Adebayo of Germantown, who had been shot.

Emergency crews transported Adebayo to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The suspect — later identified as 27-year-old Donald Wayne Bricker, Jr. of Hagerstown — fled the parking lot in a white, older model, Ford Ranger pickup truck before police arrived, but witnesses were able to describe the vehicle to officers.

Police say the vehicle was spotted and a pursuit was initiated when the driver did not stop. Around 8:15 p.m., the vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle crash in the area of the 15800 block of Darnestown Road, and Bricker was arrested.

Bricker was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries from the crash. Police say a handgun was recovered at the scene of the collision.

Witnesses told police that there was an altercation between Bricker and Adebayo in the vehicle at the Target parking lot. At some point during the altercation, Adebayo exited the vehicle to get away from Bricker and he exited the vehicle holding a handgun.

Bricker fired the gun in the direction of Adebayo and she fell to the ground, witnesses told police. Also, Bricker was then observed walking up to Adebayo and shooting her again.

Police interviewed Adebayo’s friends and family and found that she had been dating Bricker for about six months and they had recently ended the relationship.

Interviews with the victim’s family and friends revealed that Adebayo and Bricker had been dating for approximately six months and had recently ended the relationship.

Bricker is being charged with first degree murder.

Anyone with information about the shooing should call police at 301-279-8000.
