For Montgomery County residents who live in single-family homes or townhomes, that should be pretty easy.
All those residents must do is set their tree at the curb by 7 a.m. on their regular recycling collection day. The county composts and cuts the trees for mulch, so all tree stands, decorations, lights, ornaments, tinsel and garland must be removed beforehand.
Christmas trees with roots and artificial trees cannot be collected in the same way. The county suggests recycling extra needles and branches yourself by placing those under trees and shrubs as temporary winter mulch.
Residents in apartment and condominium buildings must check with their property owners for specific recycling instructions. Property managers who allow trees in their units must arrange for special collections.
