Northern Virginia is getting some Newk’s

WASHINGTON — Southeast favorite Newk’s Eatery plans to open 10 Northern Virginia locations in Arlington and Fairfax counties.

These will be the first Virginia restaurants of the fast-casual chain.

The Jackson, Mississippi-based chain signed a franchise agreement with Red Alpha Holding LLC, which operates several Five Guys Burgers and Fries locations in the region.

The first Newk’s in Northern Virginia will open next year, though the exact location wasn’t disclosed, nor were the locations for the other nine Newk’s planned for Fairfax and Arlington counties over the next few years.

Newk’s dining rooms are built around open kitchens and the menu is heavy on sandwiches, soups, salads and pizzas.

Founded 12 years ago, it has more than 100 locations in 13 states and plans to reach 200 locations by 2019.

The Northern Virginia franchise is the third franchise agreement it has signed this year, representing more than 30 new locations in the next four years.
