VRE train strikes dump truck in D.C.

WASHINGTON — A Virginia commuter train side swiped a dump truck in a work zone Thursday in D.C., officials with the Virginia Railway Express said.

No serious injuries were reported, but, as a result of the crash, Train 311, the 6 p.m. southbound Fredericksburg Line train from Union Station has been canceled.

At around noon, a northbound train struck a dump truck in a work zone at 14th Street and Maine Ave. Southwest in D.C. The train had three crew members but no passengers on board. A member of the crew was hospitalized for non life-threatening injuries, according to D.C. Fire and EMS.

Damage to the train is being assessed.

Passengers were warned to expect delays, since other trains are expected to run at slow speeds through the area.

VRE says there could delays to all trains traveling between L’Enfant station and the Long Bridge.
