18-year-old apprehended, charged with raping teen in Fairfax County woods

WASHINGTON — A man accused of raping a 15-year-old in a wooded area in Fairfax County, Virginia, last year was apprehended Monday.

A Fairfax County detective was part of a local police operation in Prince William County Monday, when he recognized 18-year-old Ronald Fabricio Herrera Contreras. The detective confirmed the man’s identity and took him into custody.

A 15-year-old girl disclosed to a case worker in August 2016 that on July 13, 2016, Contreras dragged her into woods in the 7300 block of Lee Highway, raped her and left her there.

Since the crime, Contreras, a known gang member, has been in hiding, attempting to avoid apprehension, police said.

On Monday, police transported Contreras to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. He was charged with rape, abduction with the intent to defile, gang participation and assault and battery.
