WASHINGTON — A 5-month-old was in the back seat of a car during a road rage incident on the Capital Beltway Thursday afternoon.

A man used a weapon to break the passenger-side window of another vehicle on the Beltway near Braddock Road in North Springfield around 1:45 p.m. during a road rage incident that began near National Harbor, said Fairfax County police.

The victim, a 38-year-old man, received minor injuries after the window broke. The victim said his 5-month-old daughter was in the back seat at the time and wasn’t injured. After the incident, the victim exited onto Braddock Road, pulled into a gas station and waited for police to respond.

Emergency crews treated the man’s injuries at the scene.

Police located the suspect at a restaurant in Vienna, Virginia. Police have not released the name of the driver, who they say is 25 years old and driving a white Chevy Trax.

Police initially thought a handgun or BB gun shattered the window, but no weapon was recovered. It is not yet clear what type of weapon was used to break the victim’s window.

The victim, who lives in the region, said he is not sure why the other driver targeted him. The man said the experience has been traumatic and that a wonderful day spent with his child has now ended in tears.

Police have not released any additional details about the case, including details about what caused  the window to break.

Anyone with information about the case can contact police at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477.

Editor’s note: This story has been updated to reflect police changed that the victim’s age is 38 years. The victim said the child is 5 months old.
