Tenant of home-based day care charged with kissing child

WASHINGTON — A Fairfax County man who rented a room in an apartment that also hosted a day care has been arrested on charges related to kissing a child who attended the service.

Fairfax County police say Santos Romero Gomez, 35, has been charged with assault and with kissing a child under the age of 13 with lascivious intent.

Police say Gomez assaulted an 8-year-old girl in the apartment after she had been dropped off at the day care Tuesday morning. The girl broke free from Gomez and told the woman who was watching her. The woman called the girl’s parent.

Police say Gomez had rented a room in the apartment for several years. The leaseholder runs the home-based day care in a building in the 3400 block of Glen Carlyn Drive in the Falls Church area.

Parents of children who attend the day care are asked to share any related information with police. They can call 703-691-2131 to make a report or Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
