Pedestrian struck on U.S. 29

WASHINGTON — A 52-year-old pedestrian was killed after she was struck by a vehicle at U.S. 29 and Stone Road in Centreville, Virginia Wednesday morning.

Pavithra Kenjige was crossing the road in the direction of the metro parking lot east of Stone Road when she was hit by a Toyota Camry driven by a 39-year-old man from Culpeper, Va.

Neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

U.S. 29 northbound was closed during the investigation. It reopened before 8:30 a.m.
