Arena Stage to hold open auditions for ‘Oliver!’

WASHINGTON — “Consider Yourself” invited to perform in a hit musical.

Arena Stage is holding open auditions Saturday for “Oliver!”

The show will run Oct. 30, 2015-Jan. 3, 2016 in the Fichandler Stage, featuring a string of legendary musical numbers, from”Food, Glorious Food” to “You’ve Got to Pick a Pocket or Two.”

Casting Director Amelia Powell will conduct the auditions with director Molly Smith (“Fiddler on the Roof”) and Musical Director Paul Sportelli at Arena Stage’s Mead Center for American Theater.

Located at 1101 Sixth St., SW, the theater is accessible via the Green Line Metro.

Producers are looking for two young boys to rotate in the title role, along with 9 young actors (1 girl and 8 boys) to fill the ensemble roles. Actors from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to audition.

Doors open at 12 p.m. for registration.

Singing auditions run from 1-4 p.m.

Callbacks run from 4-6 p.m.

The first 60 people who register will be guaranteed an audition, and the creative team will see additional actors on a standby basis until 4 p.m. All auditions are first come, first served.

Each actor should bring two copies of a headshot and resume and come prepared to sing a 30-45 second song (16 bars). An accompanist will be provided, so sheet music is encouraged, though a cappella singing is acceptable.

Select auditioners will be asked to stay for additional choreography and scene work. Jazz shoes or comfortable dance shoes and attire is encouraged.
