WASHINGTON — A food truck that caught fire near George Washington University in D.C. sent three people to the hospital Wednesday afternoon.
The “Falafel Bus” food truck was parked on H Street between 21st and 22nd streets when it caught fire shortly before 2 p.m. One person was critically injured in the blaze, D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Doug Buchanan told WTOP.
Two other people suffered burns but the extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
At least one of the victims was believed to be inside the truck when it caught fire, Buchanan said. It’s unclear where the other two victims were at the time.
D.C. Fire received an emergency call around 2 p.m. arrived on the scene at 2:03 p.m., Buchanan said.
Authorities have not yet determined a cause for the blaze.
Buchanan told WTOP DC police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are assisting D.C. with the investigation, which includes reviewing the fuel lines from propane tanks and generators feeding into the truck.
A GoFundMe campaign set up by GWU students after the fire aims to raise $5,000 for the victims.
