Police: Man set on fire in Northwest DC

WASHINGTON — A man was assaulted and set on fire late Saturday night by two men asking for his money in Northwest D.C., a police report said.

According to the report, the man had left an alley where he had been drinking with his friends at 14th Street and Otis Place Northwest around 11 p.m. Saturday.

The victim told D.C. police that on his way home, he was then approached by two men who asked him for cash. When he responded that he didn’t have any, the two men began hitting him, causing him to fall face down to the ground.

While he was down, they set him on fire.

Police said the victim did not seek medical attention and threw his burnt jacket in the trash.

Hours later, a concerned bystander saw the victim walking around 14th Street and Spring Road Northwest and called D.C. Fire and EMS. The victim was taken to the hospital with third-degree burns to his back.

No arrests have been made; a detailed description of the suspects was not available.
