Lanier on gun control after weapons seizure in NE

WASHINGTON — D.C.’s police chief believes lawmakers should use common sense when it comes to gun control.

On NewsChannel 8, Police Chief Cathy Lanier said the gun unit made a big seizure Monday, June 20 in an apartment on Edgewood Street near the Rhode Island Metro station in Northeast.

“Three guns, a 45-caliber handgun, all in one location. Different types of ammunition and multiple magazines to include extended magazines,” Lanier said.

Lanier said she sees the results of extended magazines daily and stands with the Major City Chiefs Police Association in its persistent call for background checks in gun policy.

“Just reasonableness, in terms of just making sure there are some background checks and those background checks apply to everyone and you have mental health checks. And that there are just certain limitations to who can go and purchase these weapons,” Lanier said.
