WASHINGTON — On Sunday, scores of runners will trek through the District for the Events D.C. Nation’s Triathlon, the 10th annual race, which benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The course winds through the city’s monuments. The Olympic Distance triathlon includes a 1.5 kilometer swim in the Potomac River, a 40 kilometer bike course through D.C. and a 10 kilometer run through the city’s historical landmarks.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society funds research to help find better treatments and cures for blood cancer.
The Olympic race begins at 7 a.m., the sprint race at 9 a.m. The triathlon takes place at West Potomac Park, Ohio Drive SW.

Drivers are encouraged to adjust travel time within and around the race course. Most road closures and detours will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
At 6 a.m., police and event personnel will implement a soft closure along the entire race course. Streets will reopen on a rolling basis as soon as the last participant has passed and all course support materials have been removed.
Please review the road closure grid and course maps — Sprint & Olympic — for more information. Residents and businesses near the race course are urged to plan ahead and to be aware of road closure schedules and alternate access routes.
Vehicles may be permitted to cross the route at metering intersections. Cross-traffic may be metered across the course, at the discretion of the traffic controllers, when there is a gap in race participants.
Streets along the race course will be marked with “No Parking” signs roughly 72 hours before the event. Vehicles in violation of posted “No Parking” signs will be ticketed and towed at the owners’ expense.
