Man shot in Northeast

WASHINGTON — A Tuesday morning shooting in Northeast is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department.

The man was shot on the corner of Varnum Street NE and 2nd Street NE around 5:50 a.m., according to spokesman Sean Hickman.

When police arrived on the scene they found the man conscious and breathing. He was taken to an area hospital.

Police have a lookout for a dark vehicle that was heading west on Varnum Street shortly after the shooting.

Varnum Street between 1st and 2nd streets is closed as police investigate.
