Georgetown track program under a second investigation

WASHINGTON — The Georgetown University track program is under investigation by the school for the second time this year.

The university said in a statement Friday that an investigation of the men’s track and field program was launched in late April following reports of misconduct and inappropriate behavior.

The university says it immediately launched the investigation after receiving a complaint. Georgetown says it is deeply concerned about the behavior, that it has to stop immediately,  will not be tolerated and is inconsistent with the values of the school. They’re not saying what the behavior at issue is.

The university adds that it promptly reviewed the school’s policies that ban harassment, hazing and offensive and disrespectful behavior with the team, including the coaches.

The school says for now the track team is banned from using the locker room and that it has increased the number of administrators attending official team events.

This investigation comes on the heels of another investigation of the track program that began in late March over allegations of racial bias. The school says both investigations should wrap up in the coming weeks.
