Is Amazon Prime Day worth checking out?

WASHINGTON — Maybe you want to start your Christmas shopping a little early. Or, there’s that flat-screen TV you’ve wanted to buy for a while.

Amazon and Walmart are competing for your business.

Earlier this month, Amazon announced a “Black Friday in July” sale for its $99 per year Prime members. In turn, Walmart launched its own early Black Friday sales to compete with the Amazon deals.

But are they worth it? Depends on what you need, says Kendal Perez, a shopping expert for CouponSherpa.com. At Amazon, you can save up to 71 percent on Blu-Ray titles like “To Kill A Mockingbird” or “50 Shades of Grey,” Perez told WTOP.

Walmart is offering discounts of 20 to 50 percent off all its sale items.
