WASHINGTON — One of D.C.’s most creative music festivals returns to Adams Morgan Oct. 7, with the fifth annual Adams Morgan PorchFest.
Adams Morgan residents and businesses will turn more than a dozen porches and patios, even stoops, into impromptu stages for live bands for the day.
As of now, the Adams Morgan Partnership Business Improvement District said, 38 bands are scheduled for the afternoon event, which generally turns out to be a big boon for Adams Morgan’s bars, restaurants and other businesses.
“PorchFest draws thousands of visitors to Adams Morgan each year for their common love of music. After spending time at this free event, visitors and residents from around the region shop and dine at the more than 250 businesses in the neighborhood,” said Kristen Barden, executive director of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID.
The all-female Afro-Brazilian percussion band Batala will kick off the event at 1:30 p.m. at the BB & T Bank Plaza at 18th Street and Columbia Road in Northwest.
For the first time this year, performances will overlap, with nonstop music around the neighborhood.
Each location hosts three 45-minute sets between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., and includes just about every musical genre, including classic rock, rap, reggae, folk, classical and a cappella.
PorchFest is sponsored by Cultural Tourism DC. Corporate sponsors are Lyft and Lars Etzkorn Law.
