WASHINGTON — MorphoTrust USA, which runs enrollment services for the Transportation Security Administration’s PreCheck program, comes to Crystal City this month with its IdentoGO mobile registration RV.
The company has two large RVs with enrollment stations visiting cities across the country. One will be parked at 1400 Crystal Drive May 15 through May 19, and then again at 2450 Crystal Drive May 22 through May 26.
“This RV is coming in specifically because we are entering into the summer season. And typically as demonstrated last year, travel picks up and demand for TSA PreCheck picks up as well,” Charlie Carroll, senior vice president of enrollment at MorphoTrust told WTOP.
Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are also taken online at www.identogo.com/rv.
The TSA PreCheck application process can be started online, but travelers must visit an enrollment center in person for fingerprinting and to prove citizenship to complete the application process.
The D.C. area is home to several permanent registration locations for PreCheck, called IdentoGo:
- H & R Block, 1701 K Street, NW, D.C.
- Reagan National Airport before security
- Dulles International Airport before security
- Alexandria Commons Shopping Center
- IdentoGo, 1968 Gallows Road, Vienna, Virginia
PreCheck allows low-risk travelers who have undergone a background check to go through screening without the hassles of removing shoes, laptops, liquids or light jackets. The option has become so popular that the PreCheck lines themselves are occasionally as long as the regular screening lines, although they move more quickly.
“TSA from the beginning has said if the lines continue to grow and more people join and are enrolled in TSA PreCheck, they will add additional lanes,” Carroll said.
“So we anticipate at individual airports, if the numbers of people entering into the PreCheck lane continue to grow and backup, I think what you’re going to see is additional staff and additional lines specifically for the PreCheck lane,” he said.
TSA PreCheck has grown significantly since it was first introduced in 2013 and it is especially popular with Washington travelers.
Dulles ranks No. 3 for airport site enrollment and Reagan National ranks No. 13.
TSA PreCheck is available at more than 180 airports now and has more than 4 million participants.
PreCheck costs $85 and the approval lasts for 5 years.
