DMV Download Host/Producer

An award-winning journalist, Megan Cloherty is WTOP’s investigative reporter and co-host of the daily news podcast, ‘DMV Download.’

In her ten years at WTOP, Megan has primarily covered breaking news, crime and courts. Before transitioning her career to radio, Megan was a local tv reporter and anchor in Oregon and Missouri, and freelanced for CNN Newsource in Washington, D.C.

As the co-creator and host of “22 Hours: An American Nightmare,” Megan and her colleague Jack Moore pieced together the details of the investigation into the 2015 murder of a wealthy businessman, his wife, their 10-year-old son and their housekeeper who firefighters discovered tortured inside a burning D.C. mansion. The 12-episode podcast, released in June 2019, reached No. 2 on the Apple Podcast charts and was chosen as Apple’s Best New Listens of 2019.

In May 2018, Megan won the regional Edward R. Murrow award for her investigative reporting on how scarce law enforcement resources in Maryland allowed for the abuse of more children in Charles County as damning evidence against an abusive coach sat unprocessed. The Alliance for Women in Media recognized Megan’s reporting in 2017 for her reporting on the pattern of child homicides linked to a lack of childcare options for single mothers. Her reporting has also earned a National Headliner Award in 2020 and the Chesapeake Associated Press Association named Megan ‘Best Reporter’ four times and ‘Best in Show’ in 2017.

A native of Bethesda, Maryland, Megan is a graduate of Walter Johnson High School and the University of Missouri where she studied Broadcast Journalism. She earned her master’s in Interactive Journalism at American University in 2012. Megan lives with her husband in Silver Spring, Maryland.
