Man arrested in death of 21-year-old shooting victim in Lothian

WASHINGTON — Police have arrested and charged an Elkridge, Maryland man in connection with the shooting death of a man found along a path in Lothian on Friday.

Andrew Thomas Morgan, 28, of 6721 Pirch Way, was charged with first and second degree murder, illegal possession of a firearm and other weapons charges, after an investigation over the weekend. He is being held without bail at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center, according to police.

The victim has been identified as Joseph “Joey” Steven Gibbons, 21, from the 5000 block of Lee Way Drive in Churchton, Maryland.

At roughly 9:30 p.m., police were called out to a report of an unresponsive adult male lying on a wooded path near the intersection of Margarita Street and Tequila Straight Drive. They found Gibbons with obvious trauma; police are now calling them multiple gunshot wounds, and Gibbons was pronounced dead at the scene.
